What is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?
This is what is traditionally known as the "Talking Cure", which of course most therapies are based on. Broadly speaking this kind of therapy seeks not only to provide relief from current problems and conflicts, but seeks to understand the origins of the problem so that it may be resolved 'worked through' and not cause further difficulty in your life.
It is for this reason that this kind of therapy is most successful when provided in an open-ended way. The relationship between the Patient\client and the therapist is central to the success of the therapy.
However skilled someone may be, if it doesn't feel right you may not be in the right place.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to explore whether the services I offer are suitable for you, and to identify what has brought you to therapy.
What happens then?
Following your initial appointment we will meet regularly, to discuss your difficulties and find ways to help you to live in a more satisfying way.
How Long Does it Take?
I prefer not to be prescriptive as each person's needs are different. When appropriate I can provide short-term therapy for example, 12 sessions. This can be a suitable choice for people who wish to discuss and focus on one specific concern. In most cases, I recommend a minimum of 1 year's psychotherapy; however this is of course always negotiable.
What about My Confidentiality?
Therapy offers 100% confidentiality. The purpose is to provide a 'safe' space where you are free to talk.
I abide by the Ethical Code of Conduct and Guidelines issued by the UK Council for Psychotherapy.
Fees and Practicalities.
For individual, family, and couples sessions I invoice on the last session of the calendar month and kindly ask for fees to be paid within 10 days.
In order to secure your a place within a Group Therapy course, fees are payable in advance.
I will always provide you with a regular time to meet each week.
Individual Sessions last for 50 minutes
Couple Therapy 60 Minutes
Family Therapy 75 minutes
Group Therapy 90 minutes
Please contact me for further information regarding my current fees. In cases of proven need, I am happy to discuss your individual circumstances.
I believe that psychotherapy should be available to all those who can benefit; and therefore I provide two low cost spaces, if you think this may apply to you please contact me to discuss further.
What happens if I miss a session?
I will always endeavour to provide you with an alternative time if given sufficient notice. Otherwise as is the usual practice, my time will be charged.
Supervision and Training
I also provide supervision and the cost varies according to the supervisees' circumstances, For example, the fee for a therapist in training is £65/€70. In addition I am also a ratified training therapist with several organizations.
How do I get in touch?
Please feel free to contact me for a confidential, no obligation discussion about how we may work together.
